| Dear visitor, you've reached silentroads.nl,
a website for the dissemination of knowledge about road traffic noise reduction.
We thank you for your visit to this site.
We believe that a significant road traffic
noise reduction can only be achieved by tackling sound at the source and that
by doing so the general quality of the environment, both in cities and in the country-side,
will be improved, without spending money on expensive noise barriers.
We
are aware that source reduction of road traffic noise is not an easy
task. The process of sound generation and propagation is very complicated,
the manufactures of the vehicles, the tyres and the road surfaces operate
from very different backgrounds and solutions have to meet requirements
on costs, maintenance, energy consumption and safety.
Working for more than 10 years in the field of source reduction of
traffic noise teaches us that real steps forward can only be made when
1) basic knowledge,
2) high quality measuring
standards, 3) structured
measurement data for various products, and 4) effective
policy are integrated into a balanced strategy that we
call the silentroads
approach. The buttons in the upper right corner will give you easy access to the silentroads subjects.
Our work in these topics has produced results that we find interesting
and we enjoy the possibility to share this know-how with you as a contribution
to silentroads. We welcome you to explore this site and find information
that you can take home. Possibly, you also would like to share information with the
silentroads community. If you send an e-mail to us
with your experience, suggestions etc., we'll be glad to put it on the site and
the community will be grateful for that.
